Knowledge is the pursuit of understanding when, how, and why something was
created, as well as its practical applications and the advantages and
disadvantages associated with its use. The process of sharing this information
with others is known as education. This knowledge encompasses the universe and
all living and non-living entities within it. Given the vast range of
information, categorization becomes necessary, leading to the emergence of
various fields of knowledge such as physics, chemistry, biology, and more.
Additionally, factors such as age, gender, location, and environment must be
considered in the transmission of knowledge. Therefore, this entire process
demands a great deal of seriousness, precision, and foresight.
We can truly appreciate the universe and its blessings when we
possess a deep understanding of its nature and how to utilize its resources
according to our will and needs. This understanding is often referred to as
light, while its absence is regarded as darkness. Interestingly, the City of
Knowledge ﷺ proclaimed knowledge as his weapon,
emphasizing that knowledge is the means by which we can conquer the universe.
As humanity strives to unravel the rules and laws governing the universe, the
inventions and discoveries that emerge each day possess the power to bring both
benefits and destruction. Thus, it is crucial for those who possess knowledge
to use it in a responsible and constructive manner. Therefore, a person of
knowledge must also possess a strong moral character. Character development is
integral to becoming a person of knowledge. Hence, education and character
training are inseparable.
Education is greatly influenced by three key elements: the home,
the school, and society. The home is responsible for physical education, the
school for intellectual education, and society for moral education. A scholar
is shaped through the collective efforts of these three components. When a
scholar possesses righteousness and integrity, society thrives in the same
manner. Conversely, when the scholar deteriorates, society follows suit. The
righteousness of a scholar is deeply rooted in their heart and mind. Thus, we
are encouraged to keep our thoughts transparent and pure, akin to the pristine
drops of Zamzam. Moreover, the intention behind our actions is deemed as the
measure of reward. Education is like a key that unlocks the potential of a
society. When it is directed in the right manner, the society flourishes, but
if it strays off course, the society faces destruction.
